I Will Die

Okay, the full sentence was “I need to write soon or I will die”. That was on 3rd July 2026. I was talking to Winnie. Y’all know Winnie. I wrote about her here. We finally met, by the way. She fed me like she was sacrificing me later. She also gave me baked goodies to take home. Get yourselves a Winnie, guys.

Anyway, you’d think I would embark on immediate writing, now that I had loudly proclaimed that my life depends on it. But I didn’t. I haven’t written since early this year. My page was hacked. Last I checked everything was in Russian with a warning. Something about it used to be a gambling site. (Fairs. It could have been a worse warning). At some point it was in Chinese too. I stopped checking after a while, no need to keep hurting myself. (Update. Moses did his thing and we’re back like we never left. Moses, IT guru, doesn’t sleep, the person I call when I experience even the smallest technology hiccup, that Moses. See how the one in the Good Book delivered Israelites from Egypt through the desert? This one delivers me from the jaws of, well, technology)

I discovered this when I was about to get started on my International Women’s Day post. So, this is way back in March. I took my laptop to log in but lo and behold! Access was denied. Of course, I panicked and called Moses (who has also developed an app, Soma Stories. If you like to read and write, you should check it out. Download from Playstore and Apple Store. You’re welcome) and here we are. I was very disappointed especially because I had really done my homework for that post. Talking to women I am close to and work with and the question was simple; What do you love most about being a woman? I wasn’t writing anything down, because sometimes I have mad faith in my brain’s capacity to remember everything. This must be the faith that’s the size of a mustard seed they talk about in the Good Book. Same brain that forgets why I walked into a room, mind you.

I don’t remember any of the answers now, except one of Winnie’s (They were many, many things). Because it was unique and I didn’t hear it from anyone else. It was also a VERY valid point. Oh, it was good!! And depending on how conservative you are, it could have also fallen into the controversial side of things. I bet you think I’m going to tell you, right? Wrong. Let’s all be patient, International Women’s Day 2027? If I will still be alive, healthy and writing? I will talk to all these lovely ladies (again) and THEN I will tell you.

That’s in 6 months. If you get pregnant now, you’ll be ending your second trimester trimester and edging closer to the finish line. I use pregnancy as a measure of time. I don’t know why. Someone will say something like “That’s in three months” and my first thought will be “Trimester mzima?” I might say it out loud too, depending on the context and who I am having the conversation with.

A lot has happened since I wrote last. I got a full-time editor. Yay! Maybe one day I’ll tell y’all about him. He doesn’t know it yet, but he signed the contract using his mouth (he he) because the last time I posted he asked me, “Why would you post something without showing me first?” Si huyu ni mtu ako kazi already? He’s also very strict. Please be nice, editor. I am a last born and we don’t get shouted at. I know he’ll keep me on my toes but that’s okay. He doesn’t even know we’re back to ‘work’. He’ll learn from reading this post. (Well, editing). I freak out when people are reading my work in my presence for reasons I cannot explain. (Really, I don’t know why I freak out) This is going to be very interesting because I literally cannot avoid him. And the way he’s set up, I think he’ll wait for me so he can edit in my presence (Update: He read in my absence. I don’t know how long I can keep getting away with it. Hopefully, forever but I highly doubt)

All this is just to say, I’m back. Hopefully I will stay back. The train containing words had derailed but we’re back on track. So, tuseme aje? Let’s do this!

If you’re new here, two things. One, I have no summary skills, you might as well be reading a novel. This means I never give disclaimers if the post is long because it is almost always, very long. In fact, you should be surprised if the post is not long.  Second, I love cats. This has nothing to do with anything. I just like throwing this fact around randomly. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing.
